All gabions and mattresses are manufactured from cold drawn steel wire, electrically welded at every intersectionn. Standard sizes and finishes are shown in the tables. Other specifications may be available to special order.

Weldmesh gabions and mattresses arrive flat. On site, gabions are opened out as Figure 3, and then simply made into a box shape, as Figure 1.

Mattresses are assembled as Figure 2.

Gabions or mattress sections are linked together before despatch with split rings on 4 & 5 mm wire diameters or stainless steel clips on wire diameters up to 3mm. Split rings are also supplied for site assembly.

• Site assembly of gabions and mattresses should be carried out in accordance with the leaflet issued by the manufacturers

• Assembled gabions should be placed in position prior to filling, and secured to adjoining gabions by lacing with wire provided

• Filling material to be not less than 100mm, or larfer than 150mm; 905 of fill to be retained on a 100mm ring

• The fill should be packed tightly so that there are no apparent voids

• Gabions should be overfilled by 25mm - 50mm to allow for settlement

• The lacing of the lids should be carried out immediately after filling, particularly in storm or flood situations
